This Cedar Park deck looked stable from above, but many boards were rotted on the underside. After we pulled a few boards for routine replacement we found significant hidden rot and moisture damage, so we inspected the entire structure, replaced every compromised board, reinforced the substructure where needed, hauled away the old wood, and finished the new pressure-treated decking with a protective coat.
The Problem: Rot You Cannot See From Above
Deck boards can look perfectly solid on top while moisture works on the underside. This is one of the most common issues we see across Cedar Park: the surface appears fine, so nobody suspects anything until a board is lifted.
That is exactly what happened here. The job began as a routine replacement of a few boards. Once they were removed, the underside of many planks showed significant rot and moisture damage, which changed the scope from a small repair to a full restoration.
How We Restored It — Stage by Stage
Full Inspection
Instead of replacing only the boards we first saw, we inspected the entire deck structure so the real extent of the damage was known before any new lumber went down.
Remove Compromised Boards
All boards with rot or moisture damage were removed. The old, rotted wood was taken off site and properly hauled away.
Reinforce the Substructure
Where the inspection showed weak spots in the supporting structure, we reinforced it so the new decking would sit on sound framing.
Install New Decking and Finish
New pressure-treated decking was installed and finished with a high-quality protective coating to slow future moisture damage.
The Result
The deck is structurally sound again and no longer hides rot underneath. The takeaway is the same one we give every homeowner: even if your deck looks fine on the surface, underlying issues may be weakening it, and a full inspection during repairs can prevent costly structural problems later.
