Hidden Rot Discovered During Repairs

This recent deck restoration project highlights a common issue we often see across Austin, TX—deck boards that appear solid from above, but are rotted underneath. At first glance, the wooden deck surface looked stable, but after we began removing a few boards for routine replacement, we discovered significant hidden rot and moisture damage on the underside of many planks.

To ensure long-term safety and durability, we carefully inspected the entire deck structure, replaced all compromised boards, and reinforced the substructure where needed.
The old, rotted wood was removed and properly hauled away. We then installed new pressure-treated decking and applied a high-quality protective finish.
This project is a great reminder that even if your deck looks fine on the surface, underlying issues may be compromising its strength. A full inspection during repairs can prevent costly structural problems down the road.
