This old high deck in Cedar Park had multiple rotted structural support posts. We removed the deteriorated wooden columns and installed new pressure-treated posts securely anchored to the existing concrete footings. Every support was reinforced with galvanized brackets, aligned, and painted, which significantly improved the deck’s structural integrity and safety.

The Problem: Rotted Posts Under an Elevated Deck

On an elevated deck the posts carry the entire structure. When several of them rot, the load path weakens everywhere above, even if the walking surface still looks serviceable.

This high deck had multiple deteriorated wooden support columns. Replacing them was the repair that restored the deck for continued safe outdoor use.

How We Replaced the Posts — Stage by Stage

Stage 1

Remove the Deteriorated Posts

Our team removed the rotted wooden columns from under the deck, one support at a time.

Stage 2

Install New Pressure-Treated Posts

New pressure-treated posts were set securely and anchored to the existing concrete footings.

Stage 3

Reinforce With Galvanized Brackets

All supports were reinforced with galvanized brackets and perfectly aligned.

Stage 4

Paint for Protection

The new posts were painted for long-term protection and curb appeal.

The Result

The deck now stands on new, properly anchored posts. The repair significantly enhanced its structural integrity and safety, and the painted posts finish the look from the yard.

FAQ

Questions About This Type of Project

When do deck support posts need to be replaced?
Posts should be replaced when the wood is soft or rotted, particularly at the base where it meets the footing or ground, or when they no longer hold the deck level. On elevated decks a failing post affects everything above it, so we recommend an inspection as soon as you notice rot or movement.
Can deck posts be replaced without rebuilding the whole deck?
Often yes. On this Cedar Park project the rotted posts were removed and replaced while the existing concrete footings were reused, so the rest of the deck stayed in place.
How much does deck post replacement cost in Cedar Park, TX?
The price depends mainly on how many posts are involved, how high the deck is, and whether the footings are sound. We give a free on-site estimate and a written proposal before any work begins.
Why use galvanized brackets on deck posts?
Galvanized brackets resist corrosion in outdoor conditions, so the connections between posts and framing keep their strength. We use them on structural repairs for that reason.
Do you repair elevated and high decks in the Austin area?
Yes. We repair elevated and multi-level decks throughout Cedar Park, Austin, Lakeway, Bee Cave, and West Lake Hills.
