This Austin deck had a support post rotted at the base, loosened framing connections, and a badly weathered painted surface. We supported the deck with a hydraulic jack, installed a new pressure-treated 6x6 post on a metal standoff base, reinforced the framing with galvanized connectors, sanded the full surface, and applied two coats of UV-resistant exterior paint — restoring the deck to safe, like-new condition in four days without rebuilding it.
The Problem: Structural Movement and a Worn Surface
The deck showed the mix of structural and cosmetic issues typical of older wood decks in Austin: one support post rotted near ground level — the most common structural failure here after wet seasons — framing joints that had worked loose, and a paint surface that had failed under Central Texas UV, leaving bare wood exposed to moisture.

How We Completed This Project
Structural Post Replacement
We temporarily supported the deck load with a hydraulic jack, removed the rotted post, and installed a new pressure-treated 6x6 post anchored into a metal post base — keeping the new wood out of ground contact so the same failure does not repeat. The deck stayed fully assembled throughout.
Framing and Joint Reinforcement
We reinforced the main framing with galvanized structural connectors and brackets. All fasteners are corrosion-resistant — essential in Austin's humidity swings, which corrode standard hardware within a few years.
Deck Sanding and Surface Preparation
