The Honest Answer Up Front

All three brands — Trex, TimberTech, and Fiberon — make excellent composite decking, and all three make entry-level lines that will disappoint you in Austin's climate. The brand matters less than the product tier. That said, there are real differences in how each performs in Central Texas heat and UV, and we see those differences on repair calls.

Trex — The Market Leader

Trex is the most widely installed composite in the Austin area, which means color matching for repairs is easiest and availability is best. The lineup runs from Trex Enhance (entry) through Select to Transcend and Transcend Lineage (premium).

In Austin conditions: Transcend's shell is genuinely durable against UV fade — we see 10-year-old Transcend decks that have held color well. Enhance, the entry line, shows noticeably more fading and heat movement; it's the line we're most often called to repair. Trex boards run warm in full sun — mid-range for the category.

TimberTech — The Heat Performer

TimberTech (owned by AZEK) splits its lineup between capped composite (Edge, Reserve) and Advanced PVC (Harvest, Vintage, Landmark). The PVC lines are the standout for Texas: PVC boards run measurably cooler underfoot than wood-plastic composite and are essentially impervious to moisture.

In Austin conditions: TimberTech Advanced PVC is what we recommend most often for full-sun, high-heat exposures — west-facing decks, pool surrounds, uncovered second-story decks. The trade-off is price: Advanced PVC is the most expensive product in this comparison. The capped composite Edge line is comparable to Trex Enhance — fine in shade, less impressive in full sun.

Fiberon — The Value Play

Fiberon's Good Life, Sanctuary, and Concordia lines deliver strong performance per dollar. Concordia's fade and stain warranty is competitive with anyone's, and the boards have some of the most realistic wood-grain visuals in the category.

In Austin conditions: Concordia holds up very well; Good Life is an entry line with entry-line behavior in Texas sun. Fiberon's local availability is thinner than Trex — repairs sometimes wait on special-order boards, which matters when you need three boards to match a five-year-old deck.

Color matters more than brand for heat: in Austin sun, a dark brown board from any brand will be 25–30°F hotter than a light gray or sand tone from the same line. If bare feet on the deck matter to you, choose light colors first, then brand.

What We Recommend by Situation

Full-sun west exposure or pool surround: TimberTech Advanced PVC in a light color. It costs more and it's worth it in these conditions.

Typical backyard deck, partial shade: Trex Transcend or Fiberon Concordia — both excellent, choose on color preference and price quoted.

Budget-conscious replacement of a worn wood surface: Fiberon Sanctuary or Trex Select — solid mid-tier performance without premium pricing. Avoid the entry lines for full-sun Austin decks; the savings show up as fading within a few summers.

Repairing an existing composite deck: match the existing brand and line. We source replacement boards for all three brands throughout the Austin area.

Existing Framing Usually Works

The most cost-effective composite project in Austin is a surface upgrade: your existing pressure-treated frame stays (after inspection and any needed repairs), and only the walking surface and railings change to composite. This typically saves 40–60% versus full deck replacement. We inspect the framing during a free on-site estimate and tell you honestly whether it will carry composite for the long term.
